Christmas Time = Time of Nostalgia (?) Empty Christmas Time = Time of Nostalgia (?)

Post by Paragon-Yoshi Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:42 pm

Hi there everyone.

Can you believe it? Another year has almost passed.
And christmas has once again drawn near.

But this is not what I want to talk about exactly.
What I wondered about this particular time of the year...
Are you feeling nostalgic, around christmas time?
Personally, I always feel nostalgic, near the end of the year.

I am always find myself thinking back of the old days, old games or take out old games and play them again.
The game that I played most in christmas-time got the be "Zelda: Ocarina of Time".
Yes, I am aware of its shortcomings.
And despite that, I still think it's one of the best games ever made.

But it's not only Zelda, but other classics as well.

Are you feeling the same way?
If not, how do you feel during christmas-time?
It's an interesting subject to me. And I am looking forward to the replies. Extra Smile

Christmas is ALWAYS the most nostalgic time of the year for me. Especially since I live down south, it's not ever even chilly until about now (yesterday was the first day the weather wasn't warm), so when I start feeling that weather I'm always hit hard by nostalgia.

Christmas actually does make me feel nostalgic. It's fairly close to my Birthday, which reinforces that "where has the time gone?" feeling. That and my Christmas lists have gotten simpler these last few years. Seems like only yesteryear I'd make big lists of games, electronics and toys. Nowadays, I usually just want batteries and socks, eheh. I'm just happy spending time with my family nowadays as we enjoy sugar cookies together, the lot of us still half-asleep ^ ^;

It seems like the Christmas spirit is already getting a hold of us, and it's not even Halloween yet! Now you've got me looking up favorite xmas tunes on Youtube, Paragon. XD And that's funny you bring up OoT, 'cause I got it for Christmas too at age 9. ^^ It was my first real 3D game, so it's always a huge nostalgia trip for me, thinking about how revolutionary the game was for its time.

From listening to Christmas-themed music, I get a large helping of nostalgia. ^^ When I was a kid, my family and I would always decorate the hallways and kitchen with christmas lights, buy a real tree each year, bake more cookies than usual, mom would set out her manger scene on a table in the living room, and we'd all fill the whole house with Christmas music from the stereo. We never bothered with setting up lights outside, but inside it was as Christmas-y as it could feel, ah; lots of good memories. :') Just turning on some familar Christmas music that I'd listen with my sis to back then, it brings all that fondness back, even the scent of cookies and candy canes. No other holiday is quite like it, IMO. Still remember jamming to some funny xmas tunes with a CD popped in my PSX while her and I cleaned our rooms and played with our toys, anxiously waiting for Christmas to come. XD

I second that! That's what I really enjoy about Christmas now too, just spending time with family and stuffing ourselves with lots of food. XD I don't even care about receiving gifts anymore, being more focused on giving them if I can.

Heh, I know that feel, being down south myself. It doesn't get really nippy down here until close to Christmas time, so it's easy to associate those peaceful, chilly nights blanketed in fog with Christmas. The chilly weather gets annoying in early Spring, though, because I'm usually tired of it by then. XD

Since it's actually December now, I've been listening to Christmas music on Internet Radio stations through Shoutcast. It's great, IMO, getting filled with that Christmas spirit throughout the day. I recommend visiting Shoutcast's Holiday section for some Christmas cheer. =P The station I'm listening too right now has a lot of funny, light-hearted songs, as well as the thought-provoking and deep ones.

I've always enjoyed Christmas music, but I can't help but feel it's being forced upon us earlier and earlier each year, certain stations playing it 24/7. It's left on at my house all month which I don't really mind, but it's good to know there's other stations like 107.3 The Wave that aren't afraid to play songs as smooth as snow this time of year without actually being about them Cool

Always knew Christmas decor was being plastered in super markets whole months ahead of December, but I had no idea radio stations were forcing it on listeners before Thanksgiving too. XD At least that one station you mentioned doesn't mind getting creative with their mixed CDs.

At this point I think I've reheard all my favorites on GotRadio, except for the "Chipmunks On An Open Fire" parady. Twisted Evil Man I so want to hear that song again, but the only upload of it on Youtube was recorded from a shaky microphone, blegh. Outside of that, I'm sure before long I'll have my fill of Christmas tunes until next year. XD

How's the Christmas spirit doing for you guys anyway? I got a skip in my step from all that music, and I made cards for a couple of my friends. ^^
