Shaolin - Lord of Fist (obscure Fighter)
Sometimes I am surprised myself, how mind-blowing obscure games can be.
And also sad how those imaginative kind of games weren't established in the video game mainstream.
One of those games is Shaolin
Also known as "Lord of Fist"
Which was only released in Japan and Europe.
What makes this game so mesmerizing are two things.
1st: The choice of fighting styles
Granted, each character has more or less the same moveset. And that isn't really original.
But the beauty of having SIX different fighting styles to choose form more than makes up for this.
Even more so, that you can learn them in the Single Player Mode.
Speaking of which...
2nd: The Single Player Mode
Which is the second thing that is so mind-blowing about this game.
Here you first choose either the male or female character and then you go fight, explore the world, visit the different temples, learn new techniques and fight opponents.
It even has RPG-elements, such as talking with characters and not to forget a LEVEL-UP system, where you gain EXP with each won fight and improve your stats.
And furthermore, your character even GROWS as he or she levels up.
Starting out as a child, then becoming a youth and eventually an adult. Which is really cool.
It's a shame that such artistic games are almost unheard of.
We seriously need more games like this one these days. seriously... :/

O M G!!!
The very idea of grinding in a fighting game sounds annoying, but wow, the fighting system itself looks interesting in action, and the fact that more than two players can be in the arena at once is something I wish more fighting games would do.
This was on the original Playstation to boot? Wow, color me impressed. ^^ The female character you can play as doesn't look half bad either, even if she reminds me of Chun Li a little bit with the hairstyle. XD
I wonder if this isn't too hard to come by in physical copies? I'd hate to resort to the shady sector of the Internet just to see what I'm missing out on. I'm still being blown away by all the little treasures tucked away in the Playstation's library, and this one is an interesting discovery for me.

Quite a find there, can't say I've ever heard of it.
The adventure elements bring to mind Shenmue and Tobal, which this game was probably doing before any of those.
And eight-player battles? That's easily 33% more chaotic than Guardian Heroes' six-player duels

Did you say 8-player battles? Why hasn't anyone else thought of that?
Instant want!

Re: Shaolin - Lord of Fist (obscure Fighter)
It should be noted that you apparently only can select that Blockman-character, when in an 8-player battle.
Probably due to system-restrictions. It's a PSX, after all...
But yeah, the game sure it worth it.
Since both Single Player and Multiplayer seem solid.

True, that part of the video with the block people makes sense now. XD The PSX barely had a 30mhz CPU, so I'm amazed it could handle the physics and controls for that many full-blown player objects at once to begin with. Would probably be less trouble on modern systems nowadays, I so want to see that happen so badly right now! XD
Re: Shaolin - Lord of Fist (obscure Fighter)
Yeah. But either way, if you like female fighters, I am sure you will have a lot of fun with this game.
