Setting Up Your IRC Client For #ShantaeFansPortal

Encase some of you newbies want to setup a local software client for connecting to IRC without having to visit the Portal's own link every time, and simply don't know where to start, it's fully possible to do this quickly and easily without headdesking yourself trying to figure out a totally new program.

X-Chat is pretty universal for both Windows and Linux, so I will cover how to connect using this program. May add mIRC instructions in a little bit. (EDIT : tutorial for mIRC added in the next post.) If you're looking for an alternative to X-Chat on Windows that's truly free, we recommend HexChat, a fork of X-Chat for Windows.



When the program starts, you will be greeted to this window. ^ Click on the Networks tab and then "Add".



Click "Add" again in this new window and simply type in "centralchat.net" "irc.eu.esper.net/6667-6669". (Without the quotation marks, obviously.) After that, go to Favorite Network and type in #ShantaeFansPortal with the pound sign. (#) Click close, click Connect on the previous window, and enjoy. And that's a wrap, see you there!

For connecting to our IRC channel through mIRC on Windows or WINE, this tutorial should cover it, give or take a few differences in the interface of newer mIRC clients.

Once mIRC is installed and starts, go ahead and click on "Select Server..."



If mIRC didn't already take you to this window, click on "Connect" and setup your nickname/alias. (Real name and Email address optional.)



Click on the "Servers" tab and look for CentralChat EsperNet in the servers list. If it's not in there, create it. Which is pretty easy, as you'll see below. Add your password if you have a registered nick as well.



After you're done, click OK and choose the Select button over there.



Which takes you back to your nick/alias tab. Double-check your nick if you like, before clicking on "Connect".



Now type in "#ShantaeFansPortal" into the channel name. (Without the quotation marks, obviously. Mind the lower/uppercase letters too, those are important.)



If everything goes smoothly, you should get text output like this.
