The Mystery Genie of HGH

Since we're going to get the Half-Genie Hero chapter in which she appears (and seeing as how we know little about her right now), what's your thoughts about Shantae's shady new acquaintance?

From the look of it, she must spell trouble as much as rottytops (even far worse, since she's a genie). Her expression shows she's full of confidence, so no doubt she's the manipulative type character.

"Suffering one mistake too many, the Mayor hires a new Guardian Genie to replace Shantae. When Scuttle Town contracts amnesia, Shantae travels to Tassle Town to discover her rival's true origins."

Collective Amnesia ? Could this be some kind of curse to taunt Shantae, or does she feed on memories to sustain her powers ?
Since genies are rare and supposed to avoid contact with the mortal world (and enslavement), this one must LOVE toying with mortals.

I think she may be a scam-artist genie (or, more likely, Half-Genie) looking to steal Shantae's job and all the perks that go with it. What better way to do so than to make everybody in Scuttle Town forget all about Shantae?

If Risky is Shantae's "Bowser", then this new genie may end up being her "Wario": the greedy imposter who tries to cash in on the hero's success at her expense.

Her half-genie counterpart ? It makes sense.
I found weird that incompetent Mayor could so easily find a full-fledged genie to replace Shantae (there's always a catch...).

I'll bet he hopes to get this genie at half-price too, eheh.
I can't really add much to the speculate debate, but I do think it's neat that Shantae has a fellow genie rival. Before the Kickstarter, I had wondered what it would be like if Shantae had a friendly rival who was perhaps jealous of her position. Though I'm not really sure this new gal can be considered all that friendly. I'm more interested in the exact reasoning behind the Mayor's decision: does he really hold such little hope for someone who's given her all through both thick and thin?
As for a possible name... how about Jinnifer?

IMy theory is that Shantae getting fired is going to be an intentional part of the new genie's scheme (make Shantae look bad, get her fired, take the job opening she leaves behind, then wipe all memory of Shantae out of Scuttle Town).

For her name, though, I've taken to calling her "Shimae" (as in "shimmy") until we get something official.

The mayor's waffling is both unpleasant and realistic, to my view - such flip-flopping of decisions occurs in my region as well.

Although the arrival of this rival gal's far more threatening....or is she? I do wonder if she'll wind up to be more of a "Pokémon" rival, in the end? :O She appears to hold a cocky or 'cool' persona, but it'd be spiffy to dig a little deeper. In any event, this bonus chapter is the one I was most hoping to receive, and thanks to the funding level, it'll indeed exist! ^^

So, what sort of new transformation do ya expect in this chapter? Out of the conceptual morphs presented by WF so far, I'd bank on the succubus or the pillbug - what a way to slip into Tassle Town unnoticed! - although I'm still eager to see that frilled lizard come about, by whatever means feasible.

I don't see why she wouldn't be a threat. She's essentially stealing Shantae's job, and I don't doubt for a second that the town's sudden amnesia is her doing.

Personally, she had better stay a villain. Shantae needs more than just Risky to fight.

Oh, well, I don't doubt it either, although I would be pleasantly surprised if WF subtly set her up as more than just the villainous half of a rivalry. =/

Concerning if her rivalry will be "friendly", it will probably depend on her origins.

If she's a half genie, she'll be an exemple of what Shantae could have become facing the hardships of being alienated by both worlds. Shantae being the naïve girl she is, she could feel sympathy for her rival and try to reason her out of her evil ways.

If she's a true genie, BIG PROBLEM with her almighty ego. Why would she even have consideration for a half-baked-scrawny-kid-of-a-genie trying to foil her schemes (though she appears to be a kid too) ?

The only thing i'm pretty sure of is that she'll be a reccurring character in the Shantae universe. Glad we reached the stretch goal to ensure her debut.

Just keep in mind that WayForward said this design isnt the final design at all.

If I remember correctly - didn't Risky Boots say in Riskys revenge that Shantae is the last (half)genie?
Cant wait to see if Risky is somehow behind the appearance of that genie~

The first game already said that there were other half-genies in Sequin Land (one can shoot milk out of her eye, according to an NPC), so Risky targeting Shantae was likely out of revenge and convenience.

Who knows, maybe our new genie may be that aforementioned milk-crying half-genie who's bitter over having such a sucky power compared to Shantae.

Ah, I remember that line in the first game. I would not stop laughing if this new genie cried milk, that would be so rich!

The hypothesis' surrounding this mystery genie just keep getting better by the day. I'm tempted to fan art a half-genie squirting milk out of her eyes now.

Ah, ok you guys are right. Risky said "After all there are no real genies left to enslave"
guess you're right with the half genie stuff  

I know we have absolutely zero info on her but I've just got this feeling that after she's defeated as the obbvious villain for that chapter, she'll view Shantae as a rival in a more friendly way and become a good ally to her over time. Kind of the Vegeta thing going on.

I hope not. Like I mentioned before, Shantae really needs more recurring villains in the series, and "Shimae" seems like she could be a promising alternative to Risky so long as she remains antagonistic.

It could swing either way, or the character could even be a one-off shot. There is basically no information to go on, so we might as well place bets on the most generally acceptable theory and wait for official word. *bricked*

This is still more to go on than what's happening at Sonic Retro right now with the new Sonic Boom reveal. They've probably made eight pages theorizing and fan-arting what the new art style is like, and all they've got are mere shadows to look at! At least we could make great looking fan art from what WayForward's shown here.

Remove the "friendly" part and I can agree with this.

Hmm...maybe she could be like Bass on Megaman series? Like a anti hero instead a villain.

I would say maybe like Knuckles, but he became more of a friendly rival later on. Although another reoccurring character of any kind would be nice. Shantae could use an anti-hero somewhere, so this half-genie has some promise.

To those that want the mystery genie to turn good: why? I mean, Shantae's already got enough allies and friends, so she really doesn't need another. What she needs is a few more recurring villains to balance it out. Also, I don't recall anything being said that all genies and half-genies in the series have to be on the side of good, so wouldn't having a villainous half-genie serve as a reasonable adversary to Shantae (like Wario or Bass are to Mario or Mega Man)?

So what would be accomplished in the long run by turning her into a friendly character?

It's one of those few things, where I am just unable to form an opinion before I have seen it in action.

I almost started a new topic about this, but felt this is still mostly relevant to the new half genie revealed in the kickstarter.

What are defining physical traits that make half-genies in Shantae's world stand out from the average person? So far, it seems like they unnatural hair colors, (Not sure about that since the real genie guardians had almond colored hair.) arm cuffs, and dress mostly like what you would expect from a genie.

This has me curious since I plan on drawing that milk-squirting half-genie, so I always want anything I draw to fit into the universe as much as possible.
