Currently, I'm mixed on this. On one hand, they can't do any worse than Sakamoto and Team Ninja (mostly Sakamoto) did with Other M. On the other, WayForward is known best for three things: nostalgia, satire, and boobies, and none of that really fits the Metroid mold.

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
When you said boobies, I instantly thought of what WayForward would do to Samu's Zero Suit. =P *drools* I don't see satire fitting the dark atmosphere of Metroid games, but WayForward have already shown themselves to work pretty well with darker themes, so it's not something I'm worried about.
I can see a little comedy being tossed in there without detracting from the rest of the game. Just look at Metroid Fusion, it had a freaking genius way of making me laugh near the end, and dawww from shear cuteness. :3
Granted, I'm not super-unbreakably confident in whatever WayForward wants to do, but they've shown how well they design games in that genre and it's always hit the sweet spot with fans. I honestly can't begin to imagine what they would do with a Metroid game, if given the chance. ^^

Not that big of a shocker to me, honestly. I think they could lend something nice to the series, even if it doesn't wind up being as legendary as Zero Mission or Super Metroid. With how amazing Contra 4 was, I'd be willing to put in plenty of faith behind their take on another classic.
Zero Suit physics... the moment I heard Tecmo was tied to Other M, that really started to worry me. Thankfully Samus' character wasn't COMPLETELY damaged - - ;

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
The Other M was that bad? (Besides the totally random name, never did like that. =P) My little cousin wanted me to play it with him but I just couldn't sit through an hour of cutscenes. XD (I swear! Let us actually play the freaking game and figure out what's going on, then bombard us with tons of cutscenes. The scenes themselves were great, but they killed my patience at the same time. XD)
Meh, either way I'm sure WayForward would be a much better choice as far as handling an installment the series. The gameplay would really hit the same niche, to say the least. XD

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
You guys gotta remember these guys also did Contra 4, and very well at that.
If it's 2D, WayForward can do it. It also helps that they're Metroid fans so they know the style and universe quite well.

I don't think I can ever play a new Metroid game again after 'watching' that B-Movie abomination they made.

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
Three years later, and people are still moaning about the Other M. Team Ninja could have done it nicely, if not for the director. I think it would be much better if Retro Studios, a second-party dev, were to continue handling the Metroid games, at least they value the depth of the canon, instead of warping it to fit some awkwardly composed dialogue.
Otherwise, Other M isn't going to stop me from wanting the next game in the series, if it's going to happen at all. All game series have at least one skeleton in their closet, even Mario, and it sadly happened to Metroid too. So if the fanbase isn't going to get over it, and Metroid decides to skip the WiiU or 3DS this gen, I'm losing some faith points in humanity. I love the series too much to see it die, or forcibly rebooted to cleanse the palette, over one less-than-perfect entry. (Well, now that I think about it, some of the earlier games were moaned about before too, like Hunters' single player campaign, and the use of text dialogue in Fusion rustled some jimmies too.)

I still love Metroid, but I'm not holding my breath for an amazing Metroid game in the future, the series jumped the shark at Metroid: Other M when it proceeded to ruin everything and declare itself canon.

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
Yeah, it's pretty easy for a consumer to lose their trust in a developer. I don't know how many people have sworn they'd never buy another Bioware game after Mass Effect 3; as if that was the only thing they've botched up before.
As long as the director behind Fusion and Other M isn't involved with the next Metroid game, I'd be up for it if either Retro or Team Ninja worked on it. The only thing really holding Other M back was the story; while not everyone agrees with the controls, I thought it was a pretty solid take on the third person perspective in Metroid games. Wouldn't mind seeing that much again with analogue stick support.

Yeah I liked the gameplay quite a bit actually, if only we didn't have to sit through so much of the story, I probably would of called it a much better experience.

Re: WayForward mentions wanting to do Metroid
That may be hard since Yoshio Sakamoto has essentially run the Metroid series since the beginning. The difference is that he had people like Gunpei Yokoi giving him feedback and telling him what ideas work and what doesn't. For Other M, Sakamoto essentially told those people "Screw off" and made everybody create the game exactly as he wanted..Luke wrote:As long as the director behind Fusion and Other M isn't involved with the next Metroid game, I'd be up for it if either Retro or Team Ninja worked on it.
