Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
The stretch goal for alternate costumes was revealed today. I must say they look pretty nice. But hey, this is Shantae we're talking about, she looks nice no matter what
I wanted to assume all the outfits would've been references to other WF characters, but I'm alright with just the Patricia Wagon cameo. Still, I am a bit beach bummed her swimsuit doesn't have more of a reference to Guppi from Xtreme Sports, eheh. And that ninja suit... I can imagine that's right up Yoshi's alley.
That third-to-last goal is the only one I'm still kinda scratching my lobe over: it appears to be Shantae in front of a mic.
Something related to the long lost Dance Hall of old? A musical minigame? A karaoke contest? Why must the wool cover BOTH eyes?! Eheh. But yeah what do you guys think about that one?

My guess? Voice acting. It'd be interesting and actually a bit refreshing to actually hear the characters talk for once.Nai255 wrote:That third-to-last goal is the only one I'm still kinda scratching my lobe over: it appears to be Shantae in front of a mic.

Good question, Does Kick starter take Visa/Master giftcards? Would be getting my credit card soon since I am of legal age. Just wondering.

I think Amazon gift cards are the only other option for adding money to an account on Kickstarter, as Skye has mentioned. If the kickstarter gets fully funded, however, a lot of us here can always chip in for the stretch goals through Paypal. ^^ The thought of being able to play as Risky would be pretty cool.
Also, thanks for the mention about these forums in the Kickstarter comments, Skye! While reading through them myself, I found this comment others might be interested in knowing.
So yeah, it's in no way a prequel like I was curious about, and it's official word. And I found this comment by WayForward pretty humorous.
EDIT : Hope nobody minds if I quote another post from WayForward, because this caught my interest too.

A link to the reply itself. (Note that anyone can read the comments section, but only backers can reply there.)WayForward wrote:@Kyle This story takes place after Pirate's Curse.

FREAKING BOLO, YOU'RE IN THE DOG HOUSE NOWWayForward wrote:@T.J. Fuller, Jr. No one on the team currently knows how Pirate's Curse begins or ends...everyone's working on the middle. But I'll tell you. It was all Bolo's fault.

Wow, this goes to show how expensive HD game development can be, and that's considering WayForward already have their own propriety engines to work with. They really do need the funding to make a game on DuckTales scale happen.WayForward wrote:@Thomas Swennenhuis We're going to explain the need for Kickstarter a bit better on the main page. We really do need funding to make a game of this size. The contents of the demo alone cost more than Mighty Flip Champs' entire development. We can do a lot on our own, but this is BIG for a labor of love project.

Like the art shift. Also Bolo looks like he's from a fighting game.

Hey. GOt pointed here by Skye. I'm AJ Ferolie there, and was the one recommending people use Amazon gift cards. I know that will be tough for some people, like it seems Yoshi is from Germany. My friend is as well, and she has some trouble backing kickstarter stuff sometimes as well.
But yeah, cool place here, and excited about a new Shantae game. I know they will get the 400k, and at least the first few stretch goals. I think we will need a boost to get the later ones.
I think you some people are still recovering after throwing their wallets at Mighty No 9, and once they get their next paycheck, we will see more donations.

Nice to meetcha, AJ! Glad you like it here!
Yeah, a lot of people must be recovering from Mighty No.9, hehe. ^^; Not us, though; the majority of us are just strapped for cash.
At this point, we can only hope that WF at least meets the funding goal.

Seconding ShantaeVocaloid, nice to see you here, AJ! I saw your posts in the Kickstarter comments, so we're glad to have you here for posting as well.
And that's a good point, Mighty No. 9 has definitely blasted its way into the spotlight for the moment. I haven't even played the Megaman games much, (Buying up and playing Metroid games kept me pretty busy as a teen when I first dove into that series.) and I can still feel the excitement everyone else is; this is huge. After everyone's wallets have recovered from that, I'm also hoping Shantae's kickstarter gets some love over there too.

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
I know how it is to have little to no money... I guess I am abusing the fact that I have money thanks to my job for the past few years. Though I have a feeling this will bite me in the butt soon.
Honestly... I never played any megaman games before, except for recently the ZX series. But I always loved Tron Bonne and Roll from the fighters and crossovers. That being said, I won't deny the greatness of megaman.
Oh, not sure if you guys saw, but Nerf Now made a Shantae comic

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
You're welcome, always glad to see a new face. ^^ And yeah, not even having pocket change for this stuff sucks, but that'll change for me soon once I find my feet.
That's still more experience with Megaman than I have. I've tried some of the NES games a couple times because of other people, but otherwise I don't know what the older X series on the SNES is all about, I'm that far behind.
Also, I haven't heard of Nerf's comic series before, but that was an amusing strip! Might dig into the backlog and see what I've been missing with these comics.

Hey AJ, welcome aboard!
Being the rock-dweller that I am, I'm actually starting to find out about Mighty No. 9 just now after having contributed to the Shantae Kickstarter, eheh. I've more or less been following Shantae and Mega Man from the very beginning, so I kinda feel obligated to show them both some love without my wallet hating me in return, eheh

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
Part of me wants to back Mighty Number 9, but I feel they got enough. Plus, I need to save some money for the other game that will have a kickstarter this month: Cosmic Star Heroine.

" Inspired by games like Chrono Trigger (visual style, on-map battles, combo techniques), the Phantasy Star series (overall feel of the worlds and characters), and the Suikoden series (political intrigue, expandable player headquarters)" That is an amazing combination!
Also, Nerf now comics and cute, funny, and a bit sexy at times. Jo , the artists, is quite gifted

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
I gotta agree on this one. I'm REALLY going out of my way for Shantae's kickstarter, haha. I haven't felt this broke in a while.zferolie wrote:Part of me wants to back Mighty Number 9, but I feel they got enough.
Either way I plan to not ever regret the decision for sure! Being able to support a series I've come to love so much has certainly been a dream of mine. ****, if we go back and reminisce on old threads we'll see that we talked a lot about how badly we wanted to support Shantae but had no means of doing so.
In other news: $170,000 as of now, and I think that's still doing pretty well. I went and made some posts on popular gaming shows and sites, and now I'm going to change my signature on my other forum accounts to advertise it. I think noting that Cristina Vee sang Dance Through the Danger (and linking the Kickstarter update page of course) may help as well. Like everyone else says I KNOW it's going to make the funding mark, but I really want to get as many of the extra goals as possible.

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
Okay, this is my story.
I heard about this kickstarter through a guy on tumblr I follow, up at this point, the only knowledge I've had of Shantae was seeing sprites from the GBC game from a site like Spriters Resource. I thought it was intriguing, then I watched the trailer and I had to back it because that song was catchy.
I've just finished playing Risky's Revenge and the original GBC version via the 3DS Virtual Console, and I must say I really enjoyed those games, and I'm with all you guys looking forward to both this game and Pirate's Curse.

Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
That's an interesting thing to share, Deadly Lampshade. ^^ It's amazing to hear somebody backed this project, and went to play the other games afterwards, just from watching the trailer. That's saying a lot about this series' charm.
I can definitely see all of those qualities in his comics. ^^ And that kickstarter looks interesting. O: I haven't seen this much throwback to SEGA CD styled art in forever, it's quite nostalgia-inducing, and if it's taking pages from Chrono Trigger alone, that's going to means tons of replay value with this gem.zferolie wrote:Part of me wants to back Mighty Number 9, but I feel they got enough. That's good thinking advertising the kickstarter on other forums, BossFight, I hope it gets noticed. ^^ Couldn't hurt to embed a GIF of it into the link too, I'm sure a lot of people couldn't ignore the cute artwork in this project.BossFight wrote:In other news: $170,000 as of now, and I think that's still doing pretty well. Halfway done.
I shall hope PayPal will become available once the goal is reached.
So I can do my bit for it.

Year! Half Genie Hero is halfway there!
$200k in 5 days? Looks like the base game is a done deal at this point. If the funding keeps up at this rate, we should be able to hit a good amount of, if not most all the milestones. *happy genie dance*
Do Kickstarters normally take PayPal? This and Mighty No. 9 are the first I've partaken in

Don't celebrate just yet. Now that the initial hype has faded, the potential funding may not be as strong as we'd like anymore. Remember, this is still a very small and very low-profile series.Nai255 wrote:Year! Half Genie Hero is halfway there!

Yeah, I think it will slow down a bit, but if Wayforward keeps pushing the game, I think it won't slow down as much. Unlike other kickstarter projects, a lot of news websites and companies know and like wayforward, and will probably publish many articals about the game. Wayforward just needs to keep the game in the news with updates every day, interviews, and contacting youtube people like 2 best friends play, which I heard loves way forward.
Plus, if they get that beta out... on may the money will flow in. Very few kickstarters have an actual beta people can play to convince them to fund to game.

I'm thinking the same thing, and it looks like they plan on keeping everybody posted on new updates via Kickstarter, so things aren't slowing down as far as adding new content, (Such as them posting a MP3 link to the trailer's theme song.) and showing more stretch goals, goes. Hopefully this won't lose much steam, there are still 24 days left to go at the time of this writing.zferolie wrote:Yeah, I think it will slow down a bit, but if Wayforward keeps pushing the game, I think it won't slow down as much. Re: "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Kickstart Campaign
A new update was posted on the Kickstarter page a couple days back, did anybody miss it? It's an interview with Mariel Cartwright, one of the animators behind much of Shantae's animations we see in the trailer. It's a good read, and also, there's a really cool gif at the end too, can't help wrapping it in img tags here.

At the time of this writing, the kickstarter is already funded by a whopping $300,000!
If it weren't for a couple things I'm busy with right now, I'd fan art so hard right now.
